Ghost Tribes is the record of Africa — fiction and non-fiction, told from many perspectives.

The fiction is a saga: four volumes set in a semi-fictional version of the continent, where tribes are ruled by kings, breakaway tribes by chiefs, and all of them answer to the Council of Paramounts. It is written by Venancio Cadle Gomani Jr. and published under the Venancio Gomani Books imprint. A game is in development.

The non-fiction is The Record: a typed archive of essays, research papers, theses, codex entries, lineages, music, art and oral history. It is contributor-driven, and it holds itself to rules that are enforced in software rather than promised in a mission statement.

What the rules actually are

Every non-fiction entry is marked recorded, remembered or told — and the publish button refuses an entry that is not. Research and theses cannot be published without at least one citation. Media cannot be attached without a rights statement. Nothing publishes under no byline, and where generation assistance was used, that is disclosed and a person is still named.

Where the record is thin, this archive says so. A gap is a first-class state here — it is the invitation, not the failure.

Retraction is real. A withdrawn entry keeps its URL and explains itself, so anyone who cited it can see what happened.

Fiction and non-fiction never blur

The Codex is the world of the novels and wears different chrome everywhere it appears. The Record is the continent as it is known, and carries certainty and source markers. Search results say which corpus each hit came from. That separation is the point of the whole property.
